About the Imaging Informatics Resource Center

This peer-reviewed Journal of the American College of Radiology (JACR) Imaging Informatics Resource Center is an online portal for critical information, expert guidance, and insights on Imaging Informatics. Guided by Resource Center Editors Arun Krishnaraj, MD, MPH, and Christoph Wald, MD, PhD, the Imaging Informatics Resource Center shares access to the expertise of the American College of Radiology (ACR) Commission on Informatics, provides free access to the Imaging IT Reference Guide and selected JACR articles, and collects related resources available from ACR and other sources.

With the insights of the ACR Commission on Informatics and the support of Bruce Hillman, MD, FACR, Editor-in-Chief of JACR, and the ACR, this Imaging Informatics Resource Center has been developed to provide a wealth of informatics resources as well as a vehicle to post updated information and guidance as the IT and Informatics field continues to grow and evolve.

ACR Commission on Informatics

Several years ago, the ACR IT and Informatics Committee identified a need to disseminate relevant IT content to address member needs and thereby indirectly facilitate access to high quality imaging practice to patients. At that time, the review of existing IT content in the body of Practice Guidelines and Standards revealed that this content was incomplete and not necessarily easily accessible to interested members. It was also determined that the fluid nature of continuously evolving IT topics required a more responsive outlet.

As a result, the ACR IT and Informatics Committee in collaboration with the Quality and Safety Commission, created an online compendium for this body of knowledge, the “ACR Reference Guide in Information Technology for the Practicing Radiologist,” which was posted online in 2013. In 2014, the IT and Informatics Committee was restructured as the ACR Commission on Informatics. In addition, all of the articles from the original IT Reference Guide were updated and revised and accompanied by additional articles for publication in a December 2014 Special Issue of the Journal of the American College of RadiologyACR Imaging IT Reference Guide. All of these revised articles are also included on this Resource Center on the Imaging IT Reference Guide page.

The ACR Commission on Informatics is led by Keith Dreyer, DO, PhD, FACR, Chair; Christoph Wald, MD, PhD, Vice Chair; and Raym Geis, MD, Vice Chair, and includes an outstanding array of internationally respected radiologists who are recognized for their leadership in imaging IT in an evolving health technology landscape.
